SDSL Broadband, what is it...?
SDSL Broadband is similar to ADSL broadband but unlike ADSL, SDSL has the same upload speed as it does download. SDSL is an acronym for Symetric Digital Subscriber Line. SDSL speeds can range from 512K upload and download speeds to 2M.

SDSL for business
SDSL Broadband is really intended for business use and can be a cheap substitute for a leased line. SDSL has a contention ratio of 10:1 compared to business ADSL which has a contention ratio of 20:1. SDSL Broadband is simply faster and geared up for business use.

Can I get SDS?
In order to get SDSL your local telephone exchange needs to be enabled for it. BT have enabled many exchanges for SDSL now and more SDSL exchanges are appearing all the time. Once your exchange has been SDSL enabled the actual speed you can have depends largely on the distance that your premises are away from the SDSL exchange.

What are the main benefits of SDS?
The benefits of SDSL can be huge if you need to send very large files as well as receive large files. The problem with ADSL is that it only allows you to receive files quickly but sending is slow. SDSL on the other hand allows you to send files at the same speed as receiving meaning that SDSL can send 8 times faster than ADSL. SDSL also allows you to run your own mail server or web server or even other services directly from your own office rather than hosting with an ISP which can save you a lot of money and puts you more in control over the services that you can offer to your own staff and customers. SDSL is simply a big improvement over ADSL and a huge cost saving over a leased line. You could save £8 to £15,000 per year compared to a leased line. Because SDSL has faster upload speeds compared to ADSL it also allows you to have more staff using the Internet connection without the connection slowing down.
